Chapple Craypots

Graeme Chapple is a third generation craypot maker from St. Helens on the east coast of Tasmania.

Famous in the local area, "to have Chapple craypots on your boat is quite the done thing".

With two daughters uninterested in continuing on the family tradition, he has taken on apprentice Greg Bell, a staunch New South Welshman.

Like Laurel and Hardy, Graeme and Greg enjoy humourous banter while they keep alive the age-old tradition of hand-woven craypots.

The rare trade of craypot making is a weaving process and they are used by professional cray fisherman to hold their catch - including one of the best quality lobsters in th world - the Tasmanian Rock Lobster
