The two days provided a variety of forums to generate thoughts and discussion on challenges faced. These challenges included the global recession and recovery, utilising technology, implementing licensing and regulation, ownership and commitment to the training system, access and equity needs, and the impact of the sustainability agenda.
Outcomes of the presentations and discussions included recommendations on how key groups could assist industry to meet future challenges. These recommendations included:
• CPSISC to continue to engage in long term research and planning to assist industry in understanding its future needs
• CPSISC to continue to develop responsive training packages and support materials to assist RTOs in implementing quality and flexible assessment approaches
• Employers to implement strategies that will assist in retaining apprentices and engaging with key groups such as Generation Y
• Employers and RTOs to engage in partnerships that will allow customised work development practices to be implemented
• Employers and government to work together to develop approaches to utilise opportunities provided by sustainable work practices and green skills
• RTOs and CPSISC to explore more effective articulation relationships between vocational education and training and higher education
• CPSISC and RTOs to work together to create consistent and quality training and assessment outcomes
