Young People: Finding their way in a new era

How well do young people make the transition between school to further study or work? Past research has shown that young people fare less well during economic downturns. In light of the current economic climate, this policy forum aims to explore how best to prepare young Australians aged 15 to 24 years for the road ahead.
Drawing on current research, this event seeks to inform policy-makers about the lives of young people, with a focus on improving education outcomes, providing skills for the contemporary labour market, and social engagement.

The keynote presentation will be given by Adam Smith, Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation for Young Australians. Adam is an outstanding advocate for youth development, education and strategic philanthropy. In addition, key researchers will present work being undertaken around three themes: improving education outcomes; skills for the labour market; and social engagement. Most of this information will draw on data from the Longitudinal Surveys of Australian Youth. An interactive Panel session will provide an opportunity to reflect on the research and discuss the implications for young people.

An interesting day for those involved with youth transitions research adn policy from government, the not for profit sector, all education sectors, careers advisors, peak youth bodies and the social community sectors.
